Sporting Activities

While enjoying tranquillity and luxurious surroundings of Duns Castle, you’ll find that there’s more than meets the eye to a stay in this eloquent location. Within the grounds, or in the local area, guests can enjoy a variety of sporting activities to enhance their exhilarating Duns Castle experience. While tennis and croquet are both available to all guests, simply by request, you may wish to indulge in something a little more unusual:

Be a big hit with some archery during your stay. This takes place on the lawns around the castle, price advice on request.


This highly entertaining diversion is available free of charge to all guests at the castle.  Guests wishing to play, should let us know in advance.



Delight in a magnificent display of falconry in the castle grounds. Fly the hawk yourself and see the different owls and birds of prey (a small owl may be used in wedding ceremonies to drop the ring!.) Displays bookable through experienced local falconers Jed forest Falconry.



Trout and salmon fishing are both available locally. Trout fishing, between 2 to 12 miles from the castle, is available via a local permit (obtainable in Duns), also tuition with tackle hire. Salmon fishing on the River Tweed is between 10 and 18 miles from the castle, prices on application to relevant agents eg. Tweedside Tackle, in Kelso.

Off road driving with quad bikes

Guests who wish to go off road quad biking should book their quad biking session directly with Ronnie Dale 4×4 Driving School. Pay them directly, and advise us of your booking details. If the castle woodlands are used for this exercise there will be an additional fee, subject to numbers and location.


There is no pool at the castle, but guests can take advantage of the large public pool one mile away in Duns. See the Duns Swimming Pool website for details on the opening times and prices.


All guests can play tennis at the castle at no extra charge. Simply book in advance. Duns, a mile from the castle, has both tennis and squash clubs, where courts can also be booked.
